Quest Schema

To complete this assignment, Ulmer recommends going back to the entertainment portion of the mystory and finding within it the following sections of the initiation narrative:
Ordinary World: In the film, this is the world of Dr. Alan Grant before Hammond's arrival and the inciting incident. For Nathan Snow, character in his own initiation narrative, this is the world before 1993.
Outer Problem: Dr. Grant needs funding for his dig, so he agrees to go with Hammond. Nathan wants to see the film, but needs to read the book first.
Inner Problem: Dr. Grant does not like children, cannot trust them and is thrown into an adventure with them. Nathan wants to see the movie but to do so he needs to read the book, his inner problem is that he cannot read well.
Threshold Guardian: For Dr. Grant this is Robert Muldoon, the game hunter who first tells him of the dinosaur's danger and the consequences of coming face to face with them. For Nathan this is his parents, who have set the consequences for not reading the book.
Shadow Mentor: This is Tim and Lex, slowly initiating Grant into a world where he trusts children. For Nathan this is Hooked on Phonics, giving him access to the world of the film.
Special World: For Grant, this is the world of the park, which (post-storm and electrical failure) is the Jurassic world he loves and studies but is denied access to. For Nathan this is the PG-13 film seen before he is 13 because he has put in the work to read the book and is rewarded with special access.
Test: Will Grant survive with the children? Will Nathan enjoy the film?
Ordeal: The dinosaurs attempt to eat Grant. Nathan is scared at parts in the film.
Resurrect: the dinosaurs walk the earth again through resurrection science. Nathan's interest in dinosaurs is piqued.
Mentor: Lex and Tim, eventually accepted by Grant and co-accept him as well. Nathan's parents are proud of his accomplishments.
